Face Off
The Palomino stallion, from another band, had run back towards the band of Pallaton's father (also a Palomino), and circled around. It seemed like some sort of display. Pallaton's father (the band stallion) and Pallaton (white horse) approached him while their band stayed back, but watched. Strangely in this encounter, Pallaton took the lead. First approaching (Confrontation 1/3), sniffing and eyeing each other here (2/3), and then Pallaton turned around (Positioning 3/3) and kicked at the Palomino (unfortuantely did not capture). The Palomino left, but slowly. Pallaton's father remained on the alert for the next hour, looking back constantly in the direction the other band had left. All three images can be found in my Wild Horses Gallery - http://belindagrebphotography.com/collections/wild+horses.
A week or so later I heard that Pallaton (now over two years old, but probably too young to have his own band) ran through this stallion's herd to try and steal a filly in heat. He was not successful at that time, although it was reported that the stallion here mainly tried to keep his own foal out of the way rather than fighting. So interesting to watch and read about these horses!

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
