Description
When I first started going to Kauai back in the late 80's, I didn't remember seeing any of these Nene geese. They are the world's rarest geese. They are found exclusively wild on the islands of Maui, Kauai and Hawaii and some in captivity. There used to be about 25,000 back when Captain Cook arrived on the islands. Due to hunting from man, and feral cats, pigs, and mongoose, their numbers were reduced to 30 birds by 1952. Reintroduced in 2004, there are now about 2500. The WWT Slimbridge nature reserve was pivotal in successfully breeding these geese. They are probably evolved from the Canada goose and Dusky Canada Goose and arrived in Hawaii about 500,000 years ago. Information taken from Wikipedia.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
