Description
Northern Shoveler
A northern shoveler, a common duck seen at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge in Washington State. Its large spatulate bill sets it apart. Like the mallard, the male has a irridescent green head, perhaps darker in breeding season, chestnut and white, and pale blue feathers seen only in flight. In non-breeding season, the male resembles the female, a mottled brown.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
