Description
Sea Lions Cavorting in a Green Sea
Six sea lions were swimming out to sea in water that was a jade green this day. There were sea lions surfing, a hundred or so hanging out in a cluster in the water near the shore and hundred more, if not over a thousand on shore. Since the tide was coming in, more and more sea lions were starting to swim out to start hunting the dinner. The water just looked so beautiful to about 100 yards out to sea.
Sea lions differ from seals in are larger, can walk on their flippers, flapped ears, and much noisier! Seals are much more adapted to living in water though both can living in water and on land.
Sadly, the last few years there have been large numbers of sea lion pups found starving on the California coasts. Marine biologists believe it is because the warmer temperatures of the water force their food further out to sea. This year as of 3/15/15, there were over 1450, 1100 in February alone. The rescuers cannot rescue or keep up with the crisis. Many are sick with pneumonia or parasites. There has also been higher sea bird deaths. Tell this to your friends that don't believe in Global Warming.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
