Description
The Duns
These three horses are from the Palomino Buttes herd in Eastern Oregon. The dun gene lightens red and black pigments and can affect black, bay, chestnut horses by lightening/diluting the base color of the coat. It is thought to be a primitive trait.
My third day in Harney County, when I first came over the hill to the waterhole, I was excited to see what I thought was Bella - a grullo or blue dun from the one herd I've encountered on multiple occasions. Then on the other side I saw "another" Bella as well. When I saw these three duns, I knew there were two bands at the waterhole amidst all the cows that were in the area too. This made a bit of tension between the two harem stallions, both Palominos.
Wild horses or mustangs can be found in different harem stallion bands and also bachelor bands, and the occasional lone stallion. The larger group of horses in the area is the herd.
Photographic art.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
