Description
Wildflower Color by Reflection Lake and Mt Rainier, No. 2
Beautiful views of Mt Rainier seen from Reflection Lakes. The second half of the Lakes Trial which leads to a junction with Mazama Ridge Trial is outstanding, including some wildflower colors both around the lakes and in the alpine meadows.
Mt. Rainier is the tallest mountain in the Cascade Range at 13,210 feet, and has 26 major glaciers. It is considered one of the most dangerous volcano in world due to the fact it is active and the large amount of glacial ice which could threaten parts of Seattle (54 miles away). It was originally called Mt Tacoma or Mt Tahoma by the native Americans which could mean "mother of waters" in lushootseed language of the Puyallup people or alternatively "larger than Mount Baker." It's current name was given by George Vancouver who named it after is friend Admiral Peter Rainier. The most recent volcanic activity was between 1820 and 1854, although there are later eyewitness accounts as late as 1894. Seismic monitors show the volcano is very much active but also asleep. Should it erupt, it could affect areas from Vancouver, BC to San Francisco, CA due to the volcanic ash. Reflection Lake, or more accurately Reflection Lakes, is located south of Mt Rainier and in the vicinity of Paradise Lodge in the Mt Rainier National Park of Washington State.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
