Description
Angel of the Citadel Embracing the City of Angels
This sculpture by Marino Marini, sits on a terrace at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. I love the way the ecstatic figure seems to embrace the shining lights. The sculptor apparently did a number of these Horse and Rider figures, often reflecting his personal outlook at the time and over the years. "However he [Marini] also said that the rider gradually becomes less and less able to control his horse and the animal grows increasingly agitated, getting so stiff so that it is no longer able to rear up." (http://www.fondazionemarinomarini.it/eng/cavalli.html) In some, such as this, the rider seems oblivious to the horse, and in his own state of mind. Later, as Marini's outlook grew darker about society, the rider falls off the horse.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
