Description
The beavers are not so easy to get great photographs of as they tend to start being active on the river at dusk, which means low light (these were taken just after 9pm). That and the fact that they are moving, usually swimming, make it no easy task. I spotted some swimming around and was delighted to see the mother beaver swimming and right behind her, practically on top of her tail was the baby beaver (no sure how old). I had to keep pumping up my ISO. The mother started swimming off in another part of the inlet, slapping her tail. The baby was left swimming by itself. It dove down and in the clear water of the McKenzie, I could see it swimming under the rocks. It would surface, then dive down again, so it's swimming skills were pretty good. There is another photograph of the mother and baby, but I hadn't adjusted my ISO yet, and was struggling trying to keep them in my viewfinder with the telephoto. While not as sharp, it's really cute as it shows the two together, with the baby's head just coming into the frame.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
