Description
Brown Bear Going for a Dip
A male brown bears aka grizzly bears found at Silver Salmon Creek in Lake Clark National Park. We stayed with this bear for some time, watching him as he grazed on sedge grass, and then later took a refreshing dip in the nearby creek.
While genetically these brown bears here are the same as grizzlies, their behavior tends to be less aggressive due to better and more plentiful food sources. There are various subspecies of the brown bear, including the kodiak that lives on certain Alaskan islands, that tends to be larger. While brown bears are among the species of least concern, it is important to note that subspecies have been hunted to extinction (California, Mexico) and other bear species around the world are severely endangered. Alaskan hunting regulations on wildlife refuges have just been greatly loosened.
The federal law prevented hunters "from shooting or trapping wolves while at their dens with cubs, using airplanes to scout for potential grizzly bear targets, trapping bears with wire snares and luring bears with food to get a point-blank kill." This law passed senate without amendment and became public law in April 2017.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
