Description
Chincoteague Bay
There are many boat tours around Assateague Island. I opted for Captain Dan's, a smaller operation and was very pleased. My main goal was to see the ponies, but since I was also taking my niece, I opted for the sunset tour by Captain Dan. I liked that it wasn't the biggest tour on the island and the boat's Captain was Captain Dan's father. It turned out the ponies were the focus and highlight of the tour, but we also got to go around the island, see the lighthouse, see many coastal birds and watch the sunset.
The habitat is interesting and because the land is constant reformed by the sea and water coming into the inlets. The small size of the Chincoteague "ponies" is a result of the poor nutrition and harsh conditions of the island. A few of the ponies occasionally get stuck in the mud and I believe most of these times they are rescued.
The water and vibrant color of the sea grass is especially beautiful in late afternoon an hour or so before sunset.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
