Description
Giraffe Dining on Leaves
This Angolan giraffe, aka as the Southern Giraffe (one of nine subspecies), and Namibian giraffe, was one of the first wild animals, we saw upon entering Etosha National Park in Namibia and driving to the Ombika waterhole. The area around the waterhole is a salt pan (I believe referred to by some as Stark's pan) which is a depressed area where water has evaporated and left a layer of salt. Namibia is the driest country in the sub-saharan Africa, and the park during high season (dry) revolves around waterholes some of which are natural springs and other that are fed by man-made boreholes. The park was established as a game reserve, from 1907 with its boundaries adjusted (reduced) in 1958 and 1970. Unlike going on a safari in Kenya, Etosha is a self driving safari, traveling along waffleboard gravel roads, to various waterholes, with some lodges having waterholes that can be viewed inside the camp. When in the park, one is prohibited from getting out of their car, except in fenced off rest areas. Also, one must be out of the park area (or within a lodging camp) before sunrise and after sunset.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
