Description
Green Sea Turtle Sunning
Green Sea Turtles, AKA Pacific Green Turtles are endangered. This Hawaiian one was sunning on a north shore Kauai Beach. Their ability to hold their breath is affected by their activity and stress, which is why they can sleep underwater, yet drown easily when caught in a fishing net. The threats to these beautiful calm creatures are many - hunting, poaching, egg vulnerability, boat strikes, fisherman nets, plastics in the ocean, and toxic chemicals. The green does not refer to the color of their carapace, but the color of the fat beneath its carapace. They are the most amazing creatures to see in the water or on land. I am filled with a sense of calm and joy whenever I have the privilege to encounter them.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
