Description
Healy Hall
During my midnight tour of Washington D.C.rambles, guided by my niece, she, remarked that during the time she lived in DC she hadn't been to Georgetown University, so off we went to walk around the campus in the wee morning hours amid labyrinth pathways and construction sites. Our goal was reaching the clock tower of Healy Hall, the flagship building constructed between 1877 and 1879 and designed by architects Pelz and Smithmeyer. To match the hour, we were partially guided there by a hopping bunny, and after he disappeared, we spied another white bunny appeared below a light. It was very Alice Through The Looking Glass feeling! The older buildings and parts of the campus are beautiful. I hope the new construction that is going on well maintain the spirit of this elegant campus. The hour on the clock (on the Healy Clocktower) said about 10 to 1am, and according to my camera metadata (set to Pacific Coast time) that was correct, so apparently the clock still works.
Apparently it is a university tradition to steal the clock hands. Most notably, they were stolen and sent to Pope John II, who blessed them and sent them back, and also, hysterically, to Barack Obama but were lost in the mail! The latest incidence was in December 2014. They are to be sent to the person you want to visit the campus.
Another interesting fact is that the construction of this hall left the then small liberal arts college in so much debt that they couldn't remove an enormous pile of dirt for years and Gaston Hall could not be completed until 1909.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.

LOVE THIS, my house in DC is just 2 blocks from the main gates! We are on the campus constantly (and know the bunnies well!).
