Male Western Tanager, No. 1
I think I saw the female first - just a bit of yellow flitting about the branches of a tree and at first thought it was a American goldfinch, then this male with his red face popped into view. It was the first time I've seen Western Tanagers in this area, and what a pleasant surprise. The pair didn't stay around for long, but I hope they return!
