Description
Mono Lake Tufa, No. 1
Mono Lake, on the eastern end of Tioga Pass, is a lake with no outlet to the ocean. As a result salt accumulates and the water is alkaline. Rock formations, mostly at the south end of the lake, are limestone deposits form when underwater springs, rich in calcium mix with lakewater that is full of carbonates (baking soda). These tufa grow underwater but were exposed when lake levels dropped after water diversions to Los Angeles started in 1941.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
