Description
Mustangs Sharing What's Left of the Water
In 2018 there's been severe to extreme drought conditions throughout most of Oregon. For the Palomino Buttes Herd, the usual year round waterhole has dried to a muddy puddle. Most of the horses are further in on the Palomino Buttes Herd HMA where BLM and a neighboring rancher have set up a trough. This bachelor band and some other horses have made their way back here, probably as there was a couple days of light rain in the past month. Note the muddy legs. Colts are often kicked out of their familial bands at around 2-3 years, sometimes even sooner, if another stallion takes over the band. They generally join a bachelor band until they are ready to steal or fight for their own band.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
