Description
On the Wrong Side of the Fence
This little calf was alone on the wrong side of the fence. His mother was not by his side, although there was a cow that stood about 40 yards away. The barbed wire fences now have a heavier gauge vertical wire that prevents the wires from pulling up or down. We figured initially that the rancher would come by but around 7 hours later when we passed by that way again, the cow was still there. I decided to walk behind the calf to see if I could head it towards where some other cows were about 500 yards away, but the open gate had a cattle guard, so the calf continued on. My friend hopped out of the car to try to guide the calf back towards me while I opened a portion of the fence by the gate where the wire could be untwisted. After I backed away the calf was able to discover the opening and headed off to join the other cows, and hopefully find its mother.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
