Osprey Reinforcing Its Nest 2017
I have a similar image from last year, but this year's image includes the female waiting in the nest. This pair have had a hard time of it this year. They returned to the tree that hosted their nest for the last two years, and of course their old nest had been blown away over the winter. They started to rebuild, but the nest blew down as it has been an unusually wet Spring. They then started in another dead fir tree, but that nest also blew down. Thus when some of the other pairs already were settled, they had to rebuild for the third time. The large nest seems rather precarious in the tall Douglas Fir and the Spring continued to be rough. So far the nest has stayed together, but I have been very anxious for them. After a breezy day, the male returned with some Spanish moss for the nest.
