Description
Sensed But Not Seen
A North American River Otter seen along the banks of the McKenzie River. My neighbor called me and said he had seen the otters again, three of them. I hadn't seen them for a 2-3 years, so I got up and went down to the river as quietly as possible. There's a lot of bushes and slippery rocks by where they were, so it's not an easy task. Once I sighted them, I tried to move into a better position by crawling on my belly along the rocks and poking my head up enough so I could see through the grass. I'm sure they sensed me, probably by smell. They were looking around in various directions, and here, though it seems to be looking right at me, it really hadn't seen me yet. Also I was using a tele-extender and a telephoto, so I'm not as close as it appears I am. I blended in, using masks, a painterly sketch layer.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
