Sharing Secrets
These two horses seemed to be telling secrets. The darker horse came running from over a hill straight up to this one and some type of greeting and communication was going on!
One day I drove around Steens mountains, on the east seeing a couple of small bands of Kigers and then as I thankfully left the gravel road and started heading north on Hwy 205 I saw this band. The horses were on land that belonged to Roaring Springs Ranch. I've done research and the ranch does have 150 horses, but it also has bands of wild horses on their land. They have and use a combination of private land, owned by the ranch, as well as public lands for their over 6,000 head of cattle. I have looked through my photographs and do not see any branding marks on the horses, and they acted like a wild herd, but less skittish than the Kigers on the east. Wild or not, they were beautiful.
