Description
Sibling Rivalry, No. 2
By late afternoon, the badger cubs were getting impatient for their mother to return with dinner. They would venture out a bit further from the den and play/fight with each other. The one cub on the left seemed to be quite bossy with the other. It would try to push the other back to the den. One especially comical part was when they backed into the den, they would seem to suddenly slide backward very quickly. By the time I left, at around 6:30 pm, the mother had still not returned. She had been out all day according to a photographer who had been there at 8:30am when she left for her hunt. It was also interesting to see a ground squirrel hanging out right in the area. Another photographer said she thought she had read they don't hunt in their own neighborhood. We had quite a few laughs about how their animal neighbors might react if the mother did. Apparently the mother came home at some point, because I heard that the family moved from that particular den a week or so later.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
