Description
Steens Mountain lies in Southeastern Oregon, just south of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge. It is a fault block mountain. It rises from sagebrush ranges where cattle roam free. If you follow the Steens Mountain Loop upwards, you will encounter pronghorn and perhaps even a wild horse.
Purple and pink wildflowers dotted its sides when I visited. There are ponds and lakes that are home to many birds. The change in landscape is wonderful. The day I visited, clouds were shifting and it started to rain. There was a wonderful moodiness near the top, with beautiful rich shades. The top of the loop was still closed (in May) due to snow.
The moody scene reminded me of old landscape paintings that have yellowed over time, so I added layers of texture and blur to give it a more painterly feel.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
