I was up at the Willliam L Finley Refuge near Corvallis OR, when a woman told me a snowy owl was hanging out at Fern Ridge Reserve closer to where I live. The next day I set off. About a mile's hike out in the march, this owl has been living near a rock bern. At first just the white of its head could be seen, then it flew to another area nearby where it was more visible, and then after 20 minutes, it heard some more people coming, so it flew to another spot. It seemed fairly tolerant of the birders and photographers who did come, luckily no more than 4 or 5 at a time, since it was quite a hike out there. I was happy to have had its company to myself for about half an hour.
These are very rare in this area. Another photographer had come over from Bend (about 2 1/2 hours away) and another person told me he had met a woman who had come up from Northern California to see this beauty. We were told this one was a female. I had read online, that a snowy ow...

Sorry Belinda ... I thought the Snowy's colors changed from winter to summer but I just read up and the males are mostly pure white ... all of the time. You were so fortunate to see this beautiful female and spend some time with her.
