Yosemite Creek with some Frazil Ice
I had heard about Frazil Ice from a YouTube Video of YosemiteNP. There's wasn't the level of frazil ice seen in that video, but I still found it fascinating to see (this was mid-April) as I've never seen this before. The slushy water comes from the heights of Yosemite Falls and ice crystals form in the turbulent supercooled water. The snow in the left of the image, is actually frazil ice deposits that refreeze during low night temperatures. Snow was only alongside the river . The ice in the water wasn't as thick as it was in the video. Best times to see are apparently March or early April.
