Top of The World
The bird formerly know as the Western Scrub Jay has now been categorized as a California Scrub Jay after the former category was split into three species by the American Ornithologists' Union: the California Scrub Jay, the Woodhouse's Scrub Jay, and Island Scrub Jay. This one sat on top of a tree in Oregon at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. I was surprised to find this NWR in the middle of a populated city suburb south of Portland. The land, a floodplain of the Tualatin River Basin, was set aside for a refuge in 1992.
