Description
Garter Snake
What, afraid of a little, well medium size snake? Well it helps that I was shooting from the car at Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge. But I'm not overly fearful of snakes. This one, as most of the ones I've seen, was simply sunning itself. I grew up in California, and there I had to be more cautious due to the rattlers, especially if you were taking a hike with the dogs. One of our dogs we had while I was growing up, a beautiful Irish setter named Bitty, the 3rd generation of setters my father owned, and who was mother to my sister's and my dogs, Terrence and Cormac, may have died of a snake bite or some other toxin.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
