Description
Cygnet with Mother
A young cygnet and his mother make ripples on Tern Lake. This beautiful Trumpeter Swan Family was seen at Tern Lake, right at the juncture between Seward Highway and Sterling Highway in Alaska. I believe this is the mother as the other parent was both larger and had a thicker neck (two indications). Tern Lake is itself beautiful to see with reflections of the mountains and pass, but it was a delight to see the cygnet, and its parents swimming peacefully in this gorgeous setting. I've read that at one time the population of Trumpeter Swans outside of Canada was below 100 in the 1930's. Fortunately these beautiful birds have had a comeback, thanks to conservationists.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
