Description
Fish Lake Dimensions
I used the word Dimensions in the title as it seems to operate on many levels with the setting of Fish Lake. First, the word suggested itself spatially in terms of the various forms around the edges of this seasonal lake and stream channels. Because the lake is seasonal, half the year it is dry, and when a lake, it is fairly shallow except for the stream channels so that it freezes easily. Fish move into the stream channels when the lake starts to dissipate and warms. Finally this place has a history, being a place where settlers, and later mule trains, stopped here to rest when they came over the pass before making their way into the Willamette Valley. One such family got stuck here when snow storms moved in early in the season, and there is a grave up the hill from this lake of a mother and her newborn child, so there is a sense of the past and historical cabins that remain - truly a special place.
On this day, I ventured out onto the frozen lake that had a couple of inches of snow on top its surface to get closer to the stream channel and edges where there was a partial melt.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
