Grand Canyon Elk No. 2 Wintered
This beautiful bull elk was along the roadside near the Grand Canyon Park entrance in Arizona. Sadly too many people were getting very close to him to take a picture with their phone cameras (within 10 feet). This reduces an animal's natural fear of humans, and if someone gets too close and gets hurt, it will be the animal that suffers as in the case of Yellowstone where an elk was euthanized. It is a privilege to see the animals so use a zoom or telephoto to get the closer shot and maintain a safe distance for all concerned. This image was taken with a telephoto and a painterly background with brushwork and layers was blended in for an artistic effect.
