Letting Go
Letting go of expectations, just being in the moment, is something I've been trying to achieve lately (an ironic statement in itself). For one, I'm usually just happier, and also more receptive to what's around me, more connected. This day I went to Fern Ridge to see the snowy owl again. I was already a bit out of sorts because I had waited for a serviceman who never showed, got a late start, etc. I did see the snowy owl but she wasn't really wanting to take visitors this day and flew further out on the marsh where we were separated by water. I had already told myself, not to "expect" anything, so I then just enjoyed my surroundings as the day came to an end. A red winged blackbird sang in a tree, a couple of geese paddled through the water and then waddled on to land, while 10 -12 more flew overhead and a hawk's cry sounded in the distance. I had that inexpressible feeling of yearning to be able to fly like these birds, to belong to this other world that I just visit. It is a feeling a bit sad, a bit sweet, and reflective of the appreciation of being able to witness its beauty.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
