Description
Peyto Lake is known for its jewel-tone blue color. Many lakes in Banff and Jasper National Park have beautiful tones, but Peyto Lakes is very unique. The color comes from the silt that is produced when a glacier moves on the rock beneath it, grinding it down and producing rock flour. The silt stays suspended in the water and absorbs the warmer colors from light, leaving blue and green tones.
