Description
Male Elephant Seal in the Water
For one month, the male elephants seals have to endure the molting process, where they rid themselves of not only their hair but also the top layer of their skin. For males, the process, called a catastrophic molt, is during the summer, whereas females molt in Spring and juveniles in early summer. Because their bodies need blood flow at the skin versus their core during this time, they are usually fasting and on land during the whole process. So if they go into the water, it's only for a short time, or their organs would get too cold.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
