While in Harney County, Oregon, near the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, I stayed in Crane at the Crystal Crane Hot Springs. The place is a no frills - a small cabin with a community bathroom and kitchen - but very reasonable. The upside is that it has two hot spring pools to relax in after a day of exploration and this view out the back There were cattle ranging out in this field. Also, there were coyotes howling at night!
Harney County has wild horse herds as well as free ranging cattle. The Wildlife refuge is teeming with all sorts of birds and attracts many birders, especially during Spring. There was a storm blowing in on this day, but luckily no downpours while I was there.
