Perils and Rescue of a Dragonfly
I noticed a strange ripple pattern across the bend in the stream. When I moved closer I saw a Blue-Eyed Darner Dragonfly under the water. I know they lay their eggs on the water and I know some insects can rest on the water, but this dragonfly’s wings were wet and it seemed to be struggling, thus the ripples. As I watched it seemed to rise up. Then it seemed to sink down and give up. The water went still. I started looking for a long stick so I could lift it out, but realized the sticks I found weren’t long enough. My niece decided to get in the water with the stick and was able to lift the beautiful dragonfly out of the water. We placed the stick in the grass so it could rest. After a few minutes, its wings started to move very quickly and that continued for about 10 minutes. Then we went to check on it again, it was able to fly away. Image 4, 6 and 8, are published as individual images in the same gallery.

Welcome to my page! There's a lot of photography here, so feel free to make multiple visits. The work can be viewed in galleries or you can search by keywords or title. I have a passion for the natural world and the living creatures that inhabit those places. The stunning beauty of our world and the wild animals that share this earth with us deserve to be revered and protected. In 2019, I was honored to have my work, Cougar Reservoir On A Snowy Day, published in the UK Sunday Times for their interview with Barry Lopez, the nature writer. In addition, recently, three large prints of waterfalls (Spirit Falls with Reflection, Moon Falls, and Pinard Falls), were bought by the Cottage Grove Ranger District Office to decorate their new work...
