What's Common About a Common Myna?
A common myna perched on a branch overlooking a grassy cliff and ocean of Princeville, Kauai. The bird has a fairly intense appearance, with its blue eye rimmed by yellow, and its yellow beak and legs. The IUCN has deemed it "one of the world's most invasive species and one of only three birds in the top 100 species that pose an impact to biodiversity, agriculture and human interests (Wikipedia). They can take over nests from other birds and evict the young. They were introduced to Hawaii from India in the 1860s to combat the cutworm moth. Before you judge it, remember we're an invasive species too!
