Description
Alvord Lake
Alvord Lake is a seasonal alkali lake in the Alvord Basin, east of Steens Mountain in Harney County, Oregon. I drove down Hwy 78 and then took a gravel road in search of Kiger Mustangs. There are a few ranches along the way and then as you near the southern end of Steens Mountain, you see the lake, looking like a hallucination in the distance. It ranges from dry to a depth of only four feet. . At one time it was about 100 miles long, alongside the Steens Mountain and was also home to the Alvord cutthroat trout, now extinct as it hybridized with rainbow trout.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
