Description
Scores of wild horess came rushing towards the waterhole and Simpson Springs from the hills in clusters of 5-10 amid thick clouds of dust. I was so startled as I had been by the area earlier and it had been empty except for pronghorn. I had found a large herd, about 38-40, a couple of miles down the road, and was heading out of the HMA. If you've ever watched wild horses, you know they get espeecially amped up when gathering at a waterhole as various bands start to interact, old friends or family members greet each other, and stallions spar and establish dominance. Harem bands are changeable as colts get kicked out, mares get stolen, but the relationships are real and long lasting. These iamges are some of the interactions as mustangs from the Onaqui herd gathered at Simpson Springs.
