Master of the Harem
A large male Steller sea lion (bull) lords over his harem of females (cows) in Resurrection Bay, Alaska. Steller sea lions have a status of near-threatened. There has been a decline US western population, (70-80%) in the Aleutian islands, since the 70's. Possible reasons include: overfishing, increased predation by Orcas and sharks, climate change, disease and shooting by fisherman who consider the sea lions their competitors.
