Description
I finally got a chance to stop by this nest. In the past it's been used by eagle, but this year there is an osprey. I was lucky enough to find her home. I did not see any evidence of young ones yet. The platform is quite tall. She watched me, but when I took a few steps closer, she took off, made a couple of circles them came back.
Osprey are sometimes mistaken for an eagle on the river, as their markings are similar, but the head is much smaller. We do have eagle here to, but the osprey are more common on the lower McKenzie. They hunt for fish, so are usually near the water. They also have a distinctive cry.
Osprey are the only living member of the family Pandionidae and the only other raptor besides the owl whose outer toe is reversible allowing them to grab slippery fish.

Nature, animals, beauty have always been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes what I capture as an inspiration to create something new.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
