Description
The Lost Calf
I started with a couple of landscape pictures and a picture of a calf I had taken in Harney County, Oregon. I love paintings, so I decided to create something that would pay homage to the great pastoral landscape painters of the Renaissance. While the post processing on a photograph can run from minimal to interpretive, every once in a while I like to go way out. Sometimes I go too far! But I do like the results of this composite.
The landscapes are both from Oregon: a mustard field, and then a farming field with trees, and the calf was one of scores that I saw ranging free near the Malheur Wildlife Refunge. This one was quite sassy. He stood in the middle of the road bawling at me for a while, before moving, taking a new stance, then, finally moving out of the way. So no fears, he really wasn't lost.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
